This year, UNIMA’s summer school (United Nation’s International Marionnettes) will take place in “La Cárcel”, seat of Titirimundi, in their first year as itinerants (from 23 June to 3 July)

This year, UNIMA’s Spanish Federation (United Nation’s International Marionnettes) will celebrate its Summer School in Segovia (Spain), its first destination outside of Madrid since the federation decided to get moving. This way, in its fifteenth edition, the summer courses will take place from 23 June to 3 July in “La Cárcel_Segovia Centro de Creación(The Jail_Segovia Creation Center). This initiative is sponsored by UNIMA Madrid, the Segovia City Council and the International Puppet Theatre Festival of Segovia, Titirimundi, an associate to this non-governmental institution focused on the puppet world, beneficiary of (the) UNESCO’s consultative status.

Both professional puppeteers and art lovers interested in new ways of creation can sign up for these courses. They will also be influential in terms of education, since more and more teachers require to enhance the knowledge favoured by the puppet theatre in the school. The courses consist on:

  • Making foam rubber puppets, with Ángel Calvente (manager of the Andalusian company, “El Espejo Negro” [The Black Mirror])
  • Object(s) Theatre, with Jaime Santos (“La Chana”) and José Antonio Parreño (“Rodorín”).
  • Puppet Theatre in Nursery and Elementary School, directed by Ana Lorite (actress and co-founder puppeteer of Naranjarte, a company that combines the performing arts of the theatre and the classical circus, offering an innovative circus’ format).
  • Video-camera and performance Workshop, directed by Gavin Glover (manager of PotatoRoom company, which explores cooperation among puppets, actors, clown, video, movement and dance).

Prices vary from 60€ to 350€, including a special discount for members.

The United Nation’s International Marionnettes (UNIMA) brings together people from all over the world who contribute to the progress of the art of puppetry, which in turn promotes the development of human values, as well as peace and common understanding among people.

From this moment, the (Summer) School will be held in a different, (Spanish) Autonomous Community each year.
